Convert to

Each word starts with a capital, except short English words such as “of” and “the” in the middle of a line.

How do I change the case of text?

Paste your text, then choose UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case or kebab-case. The converted text appears straight away and can be copied with one click. The first four styles keep your punctuation and line breaks; the code styles turn each line into one name, such as userFirstName or user_first_name.

Key features

  • Eight styles

UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case.

  • Keeps your layout

Upper, lower, title and sentence case keep punctuation, spacing and line breaks exactly as they are.

  • One name per line

The code styles convert each line separately, so a list of labels becomes a list of variable or file names.

Common uses

  • Fix text that was typed with Caps Lock on
  • Format headlines and headings in Title Case
  • Turn labels into variable names, CSS classes or file names
  • Make column names consistent before importing a spreadsheet

How each style works

Title Case capitalises every word except short English words such as a, and, of, the and to when they are in the middle of a line. The first and last words, and the first word after a colon, are always capitalised. Words with a capital inside them, such as iPhone or VektraTool, are kept as written. Words written entirely in capitals are lowercased first, so check acronyms like NASA afterwards.

Sentence case lowercases everything, then capitalises the first letter of the text, of each line, and after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. Names and the word “I” need their capitals added back by hand.

camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case remove punctuation and join the words on each line. Existing camelCase is split first, so XMLHttpRequest becomes xml_http_request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Title Case and Sentence case?

Title Case capitalises nearly every word, as in a book title. Sentence case capitalises only the first word of each sentence, as in normal writing.

Does Title Case work for every language?

The short words kept lowercase are English. Other languages have their own title rules, so treat the result as a starting point there.

What are camelCase and snake_case used for?

They are naming styles in programming. camelCase joins words with capitals (firstName), snake_case joins them with underscores (first_name) and kebab-case with hyphens (first-name), which suits CSS class names and file names. For a page address, use the Slug Generator instead: kebab-case keeps accents, so Crème Brûlée becomes crème-brûlée, while the Slug Generator simplifies them to creme-brulee.

Are line breaks kept?

Yes. Every style keeps your lines. The code styles convert each line into its own name.
