Which text tool should I use?

How to choose the right tool

Start with what your limit counts. Essays and articles are measured in words, while SMS, social posts and search snippets are limited by characters, so choose the Word Counter or the Character Counter to match; the Line Counter is for lists, logs and code. To clean up text, Remove Duplicate Lines deletes repeated entries without changing their order, the Whitespace Cleaner fixes double spaces and invisible characters left by copying, and Remove Duplicate Words catches doubled words such as “the the”. The Case Converter fixes text typed in capitals or turns labels into names for code, the Text Sorter puts lines in order, and Find and Replace changes a word everywhere at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

In which order should I clean up a list?

Fix the spacing first, then remove duplicates, then sort. Stray spaces and invisible characters make identical lines look different, so a duplicate remover would keep both copies; sorting last gives the final order.

Why doesn’t copied text match when it looks the same?

Text copied from web pages, PDFs and chat apps often contains non-breaking spaces, zero-width spaces or tabs that look like ordinary spaces. They stop searches and duplicate checks from matching. Run the text through the Whitespace Cleaner first.
