Pace Calculator
Work out your running pace from a distance and a time, the finish time for a pace, or how far you go at a pace, in kilometres or miles. Pace is shown per km and per mile, with speed in km/h and mph.

How do I calculate my running pace?
Divide your time by the distance. 10 km in 50 minutes is 50 ÷ 10 = 5 minutes per kilometre, or 8:03 per mile, a speed of 12 km/h. To predict a finish time, multiply your pace by the distance: a marathon of 42.195 km at 5:00 per km takes about 3:30:59.
- Choose what to work out: pace, finish time or distance, and whether distances are in kilometres or miles.
- Enter the other two values. Use the buttons for 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon distances.
- Read the pace per kilometre and per mile, the speed in km/h and mph, and the time or distance.
Formulas & Methods
Pace
Example: 50:00 ÷ 10 km = 5:00 per km
Finish time
Example: 5:00 × 42.195 km = 3:30:59
Distance
Example: 1:00:00 ÷ 6:00 per km = 10 km
Per mile from per km
Example: 5:00 × 1.609344 = 8:03 per mile
Key features
Pace, time or distance
Solve for whichever one you don’t know from the other two.
Kilometres and miles
Pace is always shown per km and per mile, using the exact 1.609344 km mile.
Race distances
One tap for 5K, 10K, half marathon (21.0975 km) and marathon (42.195 km).
Speed too
km/h and mph alongside the pace, for treadmills and cycling.
Common uses
- Plan the pace for a target race time
- Predict a finish time from a training pace
Even pace and real races
A predicted time assumes the same pace all the way. Hills, wind, heat, crowded starts and tiredness late in a long race usually make the second half slower, so many runners aim a few seconds per kilometre faster than their target pace early on, or plan for a slightly slower finish. Times are rounded to the nearest second, with half a second rounded up.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per distance, such as 5:00 per km; speed is distance per time, such as 12 km/h. They are the same information turned upside down: 60 ÷ 12 km/h = 5 minutes per km.
How long is a half marathon?
21.0975 km, or 13.1 miles: exactly half of the 42.195 km marathon distance.
Can I use it for walking or cycling?
Yes. The maths is the same for any activity: enter the distance and time to get the pace and speed.
