How do I rotate or flip an image?

Choose an image, then rotate it 90° left, 90° right or 180°, or flip it horizontally or vertically, and save it. The full-resolution image is used, so a 4000 × 3000 photo turned a quarter becomes exactly 3000 × 4000, with nothing cropped or stretched. JPG, PNG and WebP keep their format and transparency.

  1. Select or drop the image you want to turn or mirror.
  2. Press “Rotate left 90°”, “Rotate right 90°” or “Rotate 180°”, or “Flip horizontally” or “Flip vertically”, until the preview looks right. Press a flip again to undo it.
  3. Select “Save image”, check the new dimensions, then download it.

Key features

  • Full resolution

The saved image keeps every pixel of the original. A quarter turn swaps the width and height and changes nothing else. Images over about 16 megapixels are scaled down to fit browser limits, with a note.

  • Rotate and flip together

Combine turns and mirrors in any order. They are reduced to a single change before saving, and the preview matches the saved file exactly.

  • Transparency kept

Transparent PNG and WebP images stay transparent. If you choose JPG for one, you’re warned first and pick a background colour.

Common uses

  • Turn a sideways phone photo upright
  • Rotate a scanned document to portrait
  • Fix a selfie that the camera saved mirrored
  • Make a mirror image for a design or an iron-on print transfer

Why did my photo already turn the right way?

Phones often store photos sideways and add a rotation setting that apps follow. This tool applies that setting when it opens the photo, so the preview shows it as you’d see it anywhere else, and your rotation is added on top.

The saved file has its pixels the right way up and no rotation setting, so it can’t be turned twice by another app. Camera metadata such as GPS is removed at the same time.

Flipping or rotating: which one do I need?

Rotating turns the picture without mirroring it, so text still reads normally. Flipping mirrors it, so text reads backwards. If a photo is upside down, rotate it 180°; if it is a mirror image of the scene, flip it horizontally.

Flipping both horizontally and vertically gives the same result as rotating 180°, and the description under the preview says so. Many phone front cameras mirror the preview, and some also save the photo mirrored; flip it horizontally to show it as other people see you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does rotating or flipping reduce quality?

PNG results are lossless. A JPG or WebP has to be saved again, which loses a tiny amount of detail; at the default 95% quality the difference is very hard to see.

Can I rotate by any angle, such as 45°?

No. This tool rotates in 90° steps, which keep every pixel and add no background. For a small tilt, use a photo editor with a straighten tool.

Will it change my image’s dimensions?

Only by swapping them on a quarter turn: 4000 × 3000 becomes 3000 × 4000. Flipping never changes the size, and nothing is cropped or resized.
