How do I add a watermark to a photo?
Choose an image, type your watermark text such as “© Your Name”, and pick one of nine positions, the size, opacity and colour. The preview shows exactly where it goes. The text is sized relative to the image, so the saved file matches the preview, whatever its resolution.
- Select or drop a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Type the watermark text and choose its position, for example bottom right.
- Adjust the size, opacity, distance from the edge and colour while watching the preview.
- Select “Add watermark” and download the image.

Key features
Nine positions
Corners, edges or centre, chosen with a simple grid that works by touch, mouse or keyboard.
Scales with the image
Size and margin are a percentage of the image’s shorter side, so a 4000 × 3000 photo gets the same look as the preview.
Opacity and colour
From a faint 10% to solid, in white, black or any colour, with an optional soft shadow so it stays readable.
Common uses
- Mark photos you share online with your name
- Add a copyright notice to product or portfolio images
- Label draft images “Sample” or “Preview”
Supported formats and limits
- Input
- JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF up to 40 MB, plus HEIC where the browser supports it
- Output
- Same as original (other formats are saved as PNG), or JPG, PNG or WebP, at full resolution (images over about 16 megapixels are scaled down, with a note)
Where to put a watermark
The defaults, 5% of the shorter side at 60% opacity in the bottom right, suit a credit that stays out of the way. A watermark in an empty corner is also the easiest to crop or retouch away, so for images you want to protect, put the text over a detailed part of the picture and lower the opacity to 30–40%, so the photo is still pleasant to look at.
Check the preview at the size people will see: text that is readable on a computer screen can disappear on a phone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a watermark stop people copying my photo?
Not completely. A visible watermark shows who made the image and discourages reuse, but it can be cropped or edited out, especially in a corner. A watermark nearer the centre is harder to remove.
Why does the text get smaller for long watermarks?
If the text would be wider than the image at the chosen size, it is scaled down to fit so it isn’t cut off. You’ll see a note when that happens.
Can I use a logo as the watermark?
No, text only: names, websites and © notices. To place a logo on a photo, use a photo editor that can layer one image on another.
Can I watermark several photos at once?
No. The tool works on one image at a time, with one line of text in one of the nine positions. It doesn’t tile or rotate the text.
